May 11 – Pentecost
They say she is veiled and a mystery. That is one way of looking. Another is that she is where she has always been, exactly in place, and it is we, we who are mystified, we who are veiled – (Judy Grahn, poet). This year the feast of Pentecost is on Mother’s Day. We will consider the feminine aspects of the Holy in our Scriptures: "ruah" (breath of God) and sophia (wisdom). Special music and art will help us connect to the first Pentecost…the coming of God’s Spirit.

"Gaia & God" Book Study
Mondays, April 21-May 9, 7:00pm-9pm -- with Celeste Howard -- Room 144
Earth is in danger. Changes are coming to our lives. Will we be inwardly comfortable with these changes? A lot depends on whether they connect meaningfully with the Christian heritage that has shaped our view of life on earth. To help you think about this connection, join Celeste Howard for a book study of Rosemary Radford Ruether's Gaia and God: An Ecofeminist Theology of Earth Healing.
In her book, Ruether evaluates the heritage of Western Christian culture from the critical perspectives of ecology and feminism. Her goal is “earth healing, a healed relationship between men and women, between classes and nations, and between humans and the earth.” Copies of Gaia and God will soon be available in the gallery for borrowing and/or purchase for $12.
The Book of Revelation with Fr. Dr. Jon Goman
Saturday, May 17, 9:30am to 12:30pm - Room 7
What can the book of Revelation say to us today when it is read in its social and literary context? Fr. Goman, an Episcopal campus ministry chaplain in Corvallis, returns to Southminster to teach on a topic on which he has spent many years of study, and has even written a book. He’ll talk about the social and political environment that produced the book, and will get into specifics of what the book might mean for us today. Jon’s style is relaxed and conversational, so join us for an exciting workshop and learn why his sessions are so popular. Childcare not provided.
